Our annual summer camping trip has inspired another Tourist in my own town post. CanadianTravelBugs started this idea. It’s well worth the click to go read her tales from China.
My home province of Ontario has so much to offer. Our beautiful land and camping is just one of many “must see / do” here.
Before I show you why I love this park, which is only a short distance from my home I want to give you some info … a foundation for your ponderings.
Location: Lowbanks, ON N0A 1K0 / Phone:(905) 774-6642 [ Near Dunnville, ON]
What you’ll like: *1
• Exposed fossils of a coral reef dating back to over 350 million years embedded in limestone shelf along the beach
• Viewing platform above sand dunes
• 2 km hiking trail
• 1 km of sandy beach
• Fall monarch butterfly migration
• Bird banding station and viewing opportunities
My family has been enjoying this beautiful park for many years. It’s been awesome to see the park develop from when I went with my parents to now, when I bring my kids.
Canadian History facts:
Parks, Provincial :
>>> Provincial parks are areas of land and water, large or small, natural or man-modified, designated by any of the provincial governments for the purposes of nature protection, recreation, tourism, historic preservation and education. *2
>>> The first provincial park, Queen Victoria Park at Niagara Falls, was established in 1885. ALGONQUIN, established in 1893, was the first Canadian provincial park established to protect a natural environment. * 3
>>> In the fall of 1883, three Canadian Pacific Railway construction workers stumbled across a cave containing hot springs on the eastern slopes of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains. From that humble beginning was born Banff National Park, Canada’s first national park and the world’s third!! *4

We went to the glasses market yesterday and I didn’t have a chance to do my post 😦 So maybe it will have to wait ’til the weekend. Busy week with Parents Night and going back to get my glasses.
