Phoneography Challenge: Black and White ~ Fake Fern

PicSketch app Effect 10

Nokia Lumia 920  ~ PicSketch app ‘effect 10’

While sitting at my computer pondering what I wanted to go capture for this weeks challenge I was thinking about what I like about black and white photos.

What strikes me time and time again in these photos is the textures that I often miss when I’m distracted by the colours. In the above photo it’s the patterns that caught my attention. The photo is of my fake fern. I thought I’d “see” the textures when I used this app/effect but no. Which leads me to the other thing I like about black and white photos…the surprise! You never know what will jump out when you take away the colour.
